We work to ensure that each child develops a love and need to read, experiences writing for a variety of purposes, develops the ability to understand and solve mathematical problems, and develops an appreciation of the responsibilities and privileges of living in the United States of America.
New Minds Learning Center has been in business for the last 19 years. We set up business because of our concern with, not only the high number of students to a class in public schools, but also because of the low NY state test results that we have seen consistently for the last 4-6 years.
We are aware that each child is an individual, so unlike public schools, our policy is to teach your child by their ability and not their age. Our aim is not to hold your child back because of how old they are, or what grade they’re in, but to propel them forward into different concepts that they can grasp at their own pace regardless of their age or grade.
According to the report cards of public schools in the surrounding area, less than half of African-American children are performing at levels 3 and 4 in English Language Arts and Mathematics. – NY Dept. of Education, Statistical Summaries.
This statistical fact must change. Since 1992, we here at New Minds Learning Center have been dedicated to teaching and training children to develop their academic potential.
Apart from teaching your child the rules and standards of English Language Arts, mathematical formulas and word problems, we prepare your child for the New York State tests so that they are familiar with the kind of concepts and questions that they will be facing before actually sitting the test. Being nervous or running out of time in a test can play a huge part in a child not achieving the necessary grade. We eliminate that by giving them timed past papers to practice with, therefore easing their minds.
New Minds Learning Center runs afternoon classes in 2 sessions, 4 days a week, which are an hour and a half long. This provides your child with 6 hours of extra tuition in mathematics and English Language Arts per week. These subjects are the backbone of any individual’s education. We accept children from grade 1 to 8.
Saturday classes are also available to accommodate our students who are unable to attend during the week. The duration of the class is 2 ½ hours.
Our classes are small and children are taught in a safe and comfortable environment. We believe that a more one to one tuition is what our children need today and not large classes that affect their education.
Children are out of school from the end of June to the beginning of September. That’s over 2 months of being absent from school with little practice or preparation for the next grade.
New Minds Learning Center runs summer classes to review concepts and also to prepare children for what lies ahead.
